BusinessJournalism.org: Online Tutorials
Posted by Cynthia Barnes on April 30, 2006
This section of the American Press Institute's BusinessJournalism.org site offers audio/multimedia tutorials by business journalism professors and reporters on these business research-related topics: Covering Financial Markets, Using Numbers Effectively, Understanding Financial Statements, SEC Filings, and Covering the Economy.
This site is part of the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism, which is part of the American Press Institute (API). The API says that it is “the oldest and largest center devoted solely to training and professional development for the news industry.” The Institute was founded in 1946.
These tutorials are short, primarily audio-based introductions to basic methods for doing standard business and company research. While these are very simple, they are also quite clear and well-designed. They're created by experts and offer a nice option for anyone who needs to get up-to-speed on the foundations of doing basic business research. There are even little reviews and quizzes to test one's knowledge of the information presented in the tutorials. Consider this site when you or a colleague want to obtain clear and up-to-date guidance on standard business research sources and strategies.
